Lightning in a bottle Babe can't let the spark go out Lucky if it's once a lifetime Guess it's luck that you found And your baggage from the past Still light enough to carry around Oh A lot had to go right Just to cross paths Get a little bit closer and just like that Mirrors in your eyes Mirrors in your eyes One step forward and two steps back Just a little bit closer and just like that Mirrors in your eyes Mirrors in your eyes Out of the desert Yeah, we barely made it A cold heart surrounded with With a barricade Feel so alive But still inside You're scared of dropping the ball Hitting a wall Losing it all Feel so alive But still inside So scared of dropping the ball Hitting a wall Losing it all You say it's better to have loved And lost than never love at all But I swear thatu0027s just an easy out From picking up your heart's call No more drinking just to keep from thinking Gonna let it fall where it falls You can't stand to lose Can't stand to lose I know it's all in your head Youu0027d rather leave things unsaid But the closer that we get I bet it I bet it goes straight to your head Like it's better left unsaid But the closer that we get, I let it Straight out the desert Yeah, we barely made it A cold heart surrounded with With a barricade Feel so alive But still inside You're scared of dropping the ball Hitting a wall Losing it all Feel so alive But it's terrifying To think of dropping the ball Hitting a wall Losing it all I know it's all in your head I guess that's what you get for leaving things unsaid
JVZEL explained the inspiration behind the project, stating, “Dropping the ball was my exploration of the other side of having everything you ever wanted. Once you have everything you ever wanted in any capacity, that's the moment that you finally have something to lose. I feel like there's less risk in operating up until the moment where you have everything you've ever wanted. There's less risk. The song is almost about a fear of failure. It's not all the time I've had something to lose. I've gone through my life so much having nothing, having nothing to lose, and having nothing to lose is kind of an empowering place. So this position of knowing what you have to lose is scary—kind of scary. Dropping the ball puts it on the other person, but really, everything is a projection. I'm putting it on the other person, like, Oh, you're afraid to drop the ball; you're just afraid to lose. like I'm projecting. I'm afraid to lose. It's kind of like, if you're at the top of a high mountain, of course, the thought of, Oh my god, what if, what if I like misstep. Like, what if I fall? If you're at the tip top of a super-high, super-high mountain, the thought is gonna cross your mind. It's gonna cross anyone's mind. Of course you're not gonna ruminate there, and like, it's not gonna ruin the view, the experience, and your feeling of being at the top but it's gonna cross your mind."
